Quiet confidence is one of the most powerful leadership tools you can develop – and it might be the opposite of everything you’ve been told about being a leader. I’m exploring how the most influential leaders aren’t necessarily the loudest ones in the room, but rather those who let their presence speak before they say a word.
In this episode, I break down the true meaning of quiet confidence and why those attention-seeking “look at me” leaders often end up being the least trusted. I share real-world examples of how quiet confidence makes people lean in to listen, and why people naturally follow leaders they feel safe with rather than scared of.
Join me this week as I offer three practical strategies you can implement immediately to build your quiet confidence, including the power of the pause and speaking for quality over quantity. These techniques don’t require personality changes or expensive courses – they’re simple adjustments that can transform how others perceive and respond to your leadership.

I am so excited about today’s episode because we are diving into something that might change your view on leadership. You enter a room full of people. There’s one person talking loud, interrupting everyone, and trying to get attention. And then there’s someone else. They’re sitting calmly. Maybe they have only said two things. But when they speak, the room goes quiet. Everyone leans in. That person has something we’re going to talk about today: quiet confidence.
Before you think this is about being shy or invisible, hold up. Quiet confidence is one of the most powerful leadership tools you can develop. It might be the opposite of everything you’ve been told about being a leader. Here’s what’s coming up.
First, I will clear up some confidence myth. Spoiler alert, it’s not about being the loudest person in the room. I will discuss why those ‘look at me’ leaders often end up being the least trusted. I am going to share how quiet confidence makes you a better leader. One of these will blow your mind. It’s about why people follow you versus just putting up with you.
I will cover practical strategies you can try this week. I’ve got three simple strategies that don’t require you to change your personality or take an expensive course. You can start doing them tomorrow to change how people see you. And my favorite part, I will discuss why being comfortable with discomfort is your secret weapon. It sounds weird, but stick with me.
Whether you’re trying to be a team captain, land that promotion, or want people to listen to you, quiet confidence might be what you need. And the best part, you may have more of it than you think. The greatest leaders I know aren’t the loudest after disappointment. They rebuild quietly and invite others to do the same.
Grab your coffee, tea, find a comfy spot, and let’s dive into why quiet confidence might be the leadership superpower you never knew you needed. By the end of this episode, you’ll see those loud, attention-seeking leaders differently. Are you ready? Let’s go.
What is quiet confidence? Let me give you a simple definition. Quiet confidence is when you let your presence speak for you, even before you say a word. It’s not about making noise or showing off. It’s about having calm strength inside that others can feel.
But there are a lot of misunderstandings about what quiet confidence really looks like. So, before I go any further, let’s clear up what quiet confidence is and what it is not.
What quiet confidence is not: It’s not about being shy or invisible. It’s not about never speaking up. It’s not about letting people walk all over you. And it’s definitely not about being bored or bland.
What it is: Knowing your worth with no need to prove it every five minutes. What it is is speaking when you have something valuable to say. What it is is being comfortable with who you are.
Now, let’s get into why loud confidence often backfires. Let’s get into the ‘look at me’ folks. Have you noticed how the person bragging the most is often the one you trust the least? It’s like someone wearing a shirt that says, “I’m really cool.” It has the opposite effect.
Here are some real-world examples I would like to share. The classmate who always has to one-up everyone’s story. The co-worker who takes credit for everything. The boss who micromanages because they don’t trust anyone.
The trust factor? People follow leaders they feel safe with, not scared of. Quiet confidence makes people feel you got everything under control without making them feel small.
Now, let’s get into why it works so well for leaders to have the magic of quiet confidence. People lean in to listen. When you don’t talk all the time, your words carry more weight. It’s like having a fantastic savings account; the less you spend, the more valuable each dollar becomes. You become the calm in the storm. While everyone else is freaking out, you’re the person others look to for direction. You’re like the eye of a hurricane: peaceful in the center while everyone spins around you.
And another reason why it works so well is, you inspire instead of intimidating. Loud leaders make people think, “I can never be like that.” Quiet, confident leaders make people think, “Maybe I could do that too.” Quick story. Think about the best teacher you ever had. Were they the one yelling all the time or the one who just had this calm way of making you want to do better?

Now, back to our show.
Sometimes, after a loss, what’s left is quiet, too quiet maybe. Yet, in that silence, I’ve learned there’s room to remember what matters and to find a new joy that can sit alongside the sorrow.
Now, here are my three simple strategies to build your quiet confidence. Number one: Master the power pause. Instead of rushing to fill every silence, try counting to three before you speak. Give your thoughts a moment to settle because they get better with a bit of space. Here’s a practice tip. Next time someone asks you a question, take a breath before answering. Watch how people pay more attention.
Number two: Speak for quality, not quantity. Ask yourself, will this add value or am I just adding noise? It’s like social media. Nobody needs to know what you had for lunch, but everyone wants to see your amazing vacation photos. The magic question for you here is, before speaking up, ask, “What will make this conversation better?” Then share the idea.
And number three, my favorite: Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Quiet confidence means you don’t need to fill awkward silences or make everyone like you all the time. Sometimes, the most powerful move is just holding your space, and that is confidently. Here’s your reality check. You can’t control what everyone thinks about you, but you can control how you show up.
So, let’s wrap this episode up today. Quiet confidence isn’t about being invisible. It’s about being unforgettable for all the right reasons. The world needs leaders who inspire through their presence, not their volume.
I’ve got a few simple steps you can try this week. In your next group project or meeting, speak half as much as usual. When someone compliments you, just say, “Thank you,” instead of deflecting. Practice sitting or standing with good posture—thanks to my yoga teacher. It’s amazing how much these change how people see you.
Now, I want to leave you with this. The loudest voice isn’t always the leader. Sometimes, the one who quietly inspires is the legacy builder. The world needs more leaders who inspire through presence, not pressure. And guess what? That could be you.
I want to thank you all for listening, and I can’t wait to see how you all lead with quiet confidence in your own unique way. Have a beautiful week, guys. Bye.
